Champagne Charles Ellner

What a grand and wonderful place the House of Ellner is! Despite the grandeur, they have a very sensible approach to their Champagne making.
They say: “success that is achieved without effort often gives rise to a number of temptations”!
What they mean is, that as a House, they refuse to give in to publicity stunts and trying to race to the top of the sales charts. What matters most to Ellner is seeking to work in harmony with nature and also retaining the intrinsic identity of a family business.
Charles Ellner who founded the House of Ellner started his career as a riddler (someone who turns the bottles to work the sediment out- see our Fizz facts for more info). While riddling he also started to acquire small vineyards around Epernay and began to produce champagnes to sell to private clientele.
His only son Pierre also proved to have champagne making skills in his blood and thanks to him the House of Ellner made great headway. Pierre had four sons and therefore with more manpower the family acquired new vineyards, increased sales and generally modernised their operation. Today each son is responsible for a specific sector depending on his interests, be it oenology or management. Being a true family affair Pierre’s grand children also take part in the business so we can look forward to superb champagnes for many years to come!
Champagne Charles Ellner owns 130 acres of vineyards in 15 villages across the principal vinegrowing areas of Champagne such as the Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs, the Marne Valley, Aube and Aisne and in the hillsides overlooking Epernay where the adventure began. More than 50% of the vines that Ellner own are Chardonnay to produce cuvées of great finesse, elegance and distinction.
The labels on the Ellner products are something to behold and are taken from a famous picture which Mr and Mrs Ellner acquired some years ago.
