Champagne Janisson et Fils

Making Champagne flows through the veins of the world renowned winemaker Manuel Janisson. Both his maternal and paternal grandfathers were Champagne producers. The House of Janisson et Fils lies in the idyllic Grand Cru village of Verzenay and has been producing champagnes since 1923.
Manuel is ably assisted by one of the rising stars of winemaking, Cyril Tanazacq. Manuel and Cyril have a wonderful way of combining the old with the new in that they have great respect for the traditional methods of champagne production. For example, they sometimes use traditional wooden barrels for fermentation, rather than the more commonplace stainless steels vats. In terms of the new, Manuel has implemented an innovative technique of re-directing the vine roots deeper in order to further develop the ‘terroir’ of his champagnes. (Check out the results in the form of the Janisson Grand Cru Grand Art products, below or in our shop.)

Manuel and Cyril oversee the whole operation from start to finish and can often be found pouring over wines at various stages of production, deciding how much dosage is required for a particular blend, or checking progress of the vines, or bottling in the production area. (Please see our Fizz facts for more info on dosage)
Manuel describes his winemaking as a mixture of passion and patience. His love is evident in his products and his products have won many awards. We hope to bring you a wider range of Manuel’s products in the near future.
