Champagne Jean-Paul Morel

This champagne hails from the Grand Cru village of Verzenay, where Jean-Paul Morel and Manuel Janisson are neighbours! In fact it was Jean- Paul who introduced Tony to Manuel.
The picture below shows the windmill at Verzenay, built almost 200 years ago and owned today by the Heidsieck company. It has had a few uses amongst which was an observatory during the First World War. Not content with just a windmill, Verzenay also boasts a lighthouse which houses a museum all about Champagne.

Jean-Paul Morel is head of the cooperative in Verzenay. He describes himself as first and foremost a farmer, as his true passion is tending the vines. Jean-Paul spends several months a year in Australia teaching the winemakers there how to get the best out of their grapes and make sparkling wine.
With all his experience and knowledge to pass on, Jean-Paul only produces a small amount of champagne himself. He sells the rest of his crop to the large Grande Marque Houses. In his own words the champagne he does make is for the product and not the money.
You will notice his champagnes are different to others in our range as he opts to age his for a minimum of four years to bring out the bready and toasty flavours. We hope you give Jean-Paul’s champagnes a try and enjoy the difference!
