Ellner Brut Intégral (Zero dosage)
Ellner Brut Intégral (Zero dosage)
For those of you who like a very dry champagne but one that will refresh and caress the palate and not strip it!
Fruity throughout, with little kicks of biscuity richness.
If you want to try a zero dosage champagne this is a good one to choose because the long ageing has softened the champagne and added hints of biscuity richness, while the fruit has remained fresh and zingy. A great aperitif.
This champagne won a Bronze medal at the International Wine Challenge 2010. The judges said: "Lots of briochey autolysis. Evolved for a non vintage. Broad apple fruit. Dry finish."
Producer info:
Champagne Ellner is in Epernay and it remains family run with different members fulfilling different roles in the business. They have won many awards for their champagnes and gain consistently high scores in 'Wine Spectator' tastings. Several of their labels are based on a piece of anonymous artwork owned by the Ellner family.
Technical stuff!
It is a blend of wines from the 2002 and 2003 harvests. 60% Pinot Noir & 40% Chardonnay with zero dosage - ie no sugar was added at the end of production (as it is with extra brut and brut champagnes). There was no malolactic fermentation so the freshness of the fruit has been retained. Only 20,000 bottles have been produced.
